On 15 April 1989 the most horrific tragedy in the history of English football occurred at Hillsborough Stadium in England. Due to incorrect allocation of supporters to sectors of the stadium, 96 people were crushed to death during the FA Cup semi-final match against Nottingham Forest, 766 people were injured. A total of around 53,000 tickets were sold for the match.
