Sculptures are one of the oldest visual art forms in existence and one of the most publicly visible forms of artwork. Sculptures are more than just beautiful objects, they help us learn about ancient civilizations and understand history. Whether classical, like Michelangelo’s ‘David,’ or modern like Marcel Duchamp’s ‘Fountain,’ sculptures have long been storytellers and a reflection of the spirit of the times. Sculptures are traditionally reliefs or freestanding objects. However, contemporary artists may also use sculpture as a part of “experimental art,” where sculptures are part of the environment or paintings that can envelop the viewer.

Despite the fact that mummies first appeared centuries ago thanks to ancient civilizations, their reputation as supernatural monsters was mostly created in the twentieth century. They first appeared in fantastic stories around 1699, but it wasn't until the late 1800s that Bram Stoker wrote the first novel depicting mummies as supernatural villains. The Mummy, a 1932 film, was the next key step in the evolution of the mummy, and it set many of the character traits of mummies. In their later movies, Universal and Hammer studios’ horror films established the image of the mummy as a shambling, nonspeaking, bandaged beast. The mummy has become one of the classic movie monsters, on par with vampires, werewolves, and humanoid monsters.

The creative and minimalistic design of the figurine by the artist Polina Samorodok conveys the spirit of everyone's favorite Old School!
