Achieving sporting success on a global level raises the stature of a country. To that end, some nations go so far as to construct amenities exclusively reserved for elite athletes rather than for the general public. I believe that this is a negative trend for two reasons.
Firstly, the construction of sports complexes intended solely for the use of top sportspeople is unfair. These amenities are usually built with significant public funds, and restricting access to only a select group rather than the majority of society represents an unjust allocation of taxpayer money. This may engender feelings of resentment and bitterness among the public, leading to a less cohesive society. Consequently, it can be inferred that this practice puts individuals at the grassroots level at a disadvantage, favoring only those at the opposite end of the spectrum in terms of sporting abilities.
This practice also leads to a decline in public health. With limited access to such facilities, people will have fewer opportunities for exercise, potentially resulting in long-term health issues such as obesity and diabetes. As the prevalence of such health problems increases, it strains the healthcare system, escalating the country's healthcare costs. This demonstrates that such a practice is short-sighted, leading to numerous serious economic problems.
In conclusion, the introduction of sports facilities exclusively for top athletes is an unfavorable practice. One reason is that it perpetuates injustice, and the second is that it contributes to the deterioration of public health.
