This seems like it should be a rather big deal...

Freedom is an illusion. We only have one choice which we are truly free to make. We can choose to submit to a God who loves us and allow Him to enact His perfect will in our lives, or we can choose to reject God. If we reject God, we become a slave to our character defects. A slave to sin. Neither choice involves any amount of real personal “control” over our lives.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” - Jeremiah 29:11

2022-02-09 17:23:27 "The feeling of emptiness, worldly vanity, helplessness against temptations-will pass; but you should accept all this now as your cross, struggling according to your strength, and not being so proud as to think that you should be above them"

2022-02-09 16:07:15 I’ve always liked St. Maximos the Confessor’s view that Christ becomes incarnate in four different (but related) ways: First, in the creation of the cosmos itself. Second, in the Scriptures. Third, in the flesh as the God-man. And fourth, in the lives of those who earnestly seek Him

2022-02-08 16:23:15 The Image and Likeness of God

Genesis states that man was created in the image and likeness of God. John of Damascus wrote, ‘The expression according to the image indicates rationality and freedom, while the expression according to the likeness indicates assimilation to God through virtue.’

All of the human virtues are attributes of God. They are the divine properties which should be in all human persons by the gift of God in creation and salvation through Christ. To acquire the virtues is to reacquire the divine likeness of God.

Unlike the image of God, which can never be lost even by the most sinful, the likeness depends upon moral choice, upon ‘virtue,’ and so it is destroyed by sin.

The virtues are not an endowment which man possesses from the start, but a goal at which he must aim, something which he can only acquire by degrees through the grace of God.

2022-02-08 13:11:11 NOW IS THE TIME FOR PREPARATION

“It's time to build the foundation of unshakable trust in the Living God. The victors of the Church Triumphant go before us, calling us not to shy away from battle. We must, in the end, make a choice: Where is our true joy: in this world or in another? It can’t be in both at the same time. God gives us the strength to walk the path of the Cross, the way of crucifixion; and there is no other way to be a Christian.

Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) wrote in his journal:

Let not us, who would be Christians, expect anything else from it than to be crucified. For, to be Christian is to be crucified, in this time and in any time since Christ came for the first time. Christ’s life is an example—and warning—to us all. We must be crucified personally, mystically; for through crucifixion is the only path to resurrection.’”

2022-02-08 11:01:29 Suffering for Right and Wrong

1 Peter 3:10-17
(NKJV)

¹⁰For “He who would love life
And see good days,
Let him refrain his tongue from evil,
And his lips from speaking deceit.
¹¹Let him turn away from evil and do good;
Let him seek peace and pursue it.
¹²For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous,
And His ears are open to their prayers;
But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

¹³And who is he who will harm you if you become followers of what is good? ¹⁴But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. “And do not be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.” ¹⁵But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; ¹⁶having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. ¹⁷For it is better, if it is the will of God, to suffer for doing good than for doing evil.
