Insiders say it is common that when chief executives leave a company, they strike an agreement which allows the firm to call upon their knowledge if required.

Should Ed Woodward take a role, it is likely that it would be on this basis, rather than a position that would see him working extensively at the club on an ongoing basis.

#mufc players and staff were surprised to be given a week off after Solskjær flew back to Norway with his family on Monday. The move was said to be unexpected considering the crisis.

Club sources indicated again this evening that Solskjær’s job is not under immediate threat and he’s expected to remain in charge for #mufc’s visit to Watford a week on Saturday.

2021-11-09 00:01:26 Solskjær is increasingly at risk of losing his job, even though #mufc are still somewhat reluctant to make a change without any obvious contingency plan in place. The club are yet to identify an obvious replacement should they decide to make a change.

There is now a belief Solskjær's sacking will be inevitable at some stage of this season, though the club would still prefer to have a replacement lined up before deciding to end his reign.

Some at #mufc still believe Solskjær needs more time to turn things around whereas other sources believe #mufc are only delaying the inevitable by giving him longer in the role.

#mufc passed on the chance to appoint Antonio Conte as their new coach before he took charge of Tottenham, while Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is well regarded by the club despite his links with Liverpool.

2021-11-08 22:10:51 Marcus Rashford has pulled out of the England squad for the World Cup qualifying games - he will not join up in order to focus on regaining full fitness during the international break following a bout of illness and recent return from a long injury lay-off.

#mufc and England are thought to agree that Rashford’s time would be better spent working on his fitness at the club’s Carrington training base this week and next rather than competing in the forthcoming internationals.
