Confidence Climb

Self-doubt means you don’t believe you can get the score you want. IELTS is a staircase to the top of a mountain.

Overconfidence means you believe you can get the score you want even though your English is not good enough. You think you’re already on top of the mountain - but you’re not.

Confidence means you know that it is possible to get the score you want if you work hard. It will be hard. It will take time. But you can do it if you take it step by step.

To deal with self-doubt try:

1. Focusing on what you can do - can you write topic sentences?
2. Do the same activity over and over until you are good at it.
3. Watching a video on youtube about ‘Growth Mind-set’ or ‘Grit.’
4. Don’t measure yourself by where you were yesterday. You won’t grow an inch in a day.
5. Look back at your English work from years ago - then you’ll see the growth.
6. Change your routine - work late at night, drink/don’t drink coffee, work alone/in public, work naked, do new activities - change it up!
7. Relax with English - listen to a song, read a comic, find some memes on instagram. Make English fun again - not an enemy for a minute.

To deal with overconfidence try:

1. Doing a practice test.
2. Asking someone you trust about your English
3. Doing a google voice search - can google understand you?
4. Reading something from an English newspaper Listening to a Ted Talk
5. Doing a timed writing test and comparing with a sample answer
