Q:Foreign visitors should pay more than local visitors for cultural and historical attractions. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?
Answer:
It is sometimes argued that overseas tourists should be charged more than local people to visit important sites and monuments. While I disagree with this view, I believe that tourist attractions should be made free for everyone to see.
The main reason why foreign visitors and local people should pay equally for tourist attractions is because tourists, already contribute financially toward the economy of the country they visit. For example, they use many different services such as restaurants, hotels and shops all of which clearly bring a lot of money to a country. If foreign visitors are made required to pay more, however, it is likely that they will not want to visit the host country again in the future. This might therefore poorly reflect on countries' economies, as fewer tourists will visit those countries.
On the other hand, I would argue with those who think that tourist attractions should be paid to visit. That is to say, when it comes to history and culture people ought not to be made pay to learn about them. I strongly support those who believe that historical and cultural attractions belong to people, not to the governments who often try to keep them away from the public. Moreover, since tourist attractions have become too commercial, people have to spend huge amount of money to see them. This means that some people simply cannot afford to see famous landmarks of their country.
In conclusion, although I do not support the idea that foreign visitors should pay more for tourist attractions than local visitors, I believe they should be made accessible to everyone.
