2022-06-23 17:59:01 The United States’ House of Representatives has passed a bill bringing the country’s code into the 21st century, clarifying that women and LGBTQ+ people can run for president.

In terms of an LGBTQ+ American leader, Pete Buttigieg is the first openly gay man to run for president, and gained momentum among voters before dropping out of the race in March 2020, then endorsing Joe Biden.

He now serves as secretary of transportation, making him the first openly gay person confirmed to the cabinet in US history.

Buttigieg said in a speech on the campaign trail: “The fact that I’m standing here – the fact that my husband’s in the audience watching right now – is just an amazing example of that belief that yes, yes, you belong, and this country has a place for you.

The Washington Post reports him as saying after a win in Iowa: “It validates, for a kid somewhere in a community wondering if he belongs or she belongs or they belong in their own family, that if you believe in yourself and your country, there’s a lot backing up that belief.”

A brave queer couple who volunteered to join the front line in Ukraine have sewn a unicorn patch onto their uniforms as a defiant symbol of the LGBTQ+ community.

In an interview with Reuters, volunteer soldiers Oleksandr Zhugan and Antonina Romanova have spoken about their decision to join active duty, stating that Russia “wants to destroy our culture… we can’t allow this to happen”.

Speaking to the news agency, Zhugan explained that the practice of wearing a unicorn on their uniform began during the 2014 conflict when Russia invaded the the Crimean Peninsula.

The billionaire`s daughter recently filed a petition to change her name, citing that she does not “wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape or form”.

Her mother Justine Wilson, former wife of the Tesla CEO, then took to Twitter on Monday to applaud her child.

Musk himself has pushed anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric in the past. His tweet in 2020 claimed that “pronouns suck”, and was followed up by a meme of a British Redcoat smearing blood on his face with the caption: “When you put he/him in [yo]ur bio.”

More recently, Musk posted yet another meme on Twitter mocking brands changing their logos for Pride Month. The meme featured a tornado surrounded by rainbow brand logos, captioned: “June is almost here.”
