The error message "Unfortunately, this channel couldn't be displayed on your device" is a result of using "Telegram Desktop" rather than "Telegram". Both versions for mac are downloaded from the Telegram web site. The former is older and does not display certain selected channels (I don't know why, seems suspicious) and the latter is a shoddy newer version that does display those channels.

Some shadiness is still going on, but using the second version of Telegram bypasses this error message.

We still need an alternative to Telegram anyway.
