This is not the first time that Ankara is using the Kurds to undermine the situation within the alliance, trying to realize its interests through the platform.
Back in November 2019, Ankara blackmailed their NATO allies by threatening to block the Baltic defense plan if Brussels did not recognize the Kurds as terrorists.
It is still not clear what Ankara received besides loud headlines, but the defense plan was eventually adopted without fulfilling the demand of the Turks.
