Bibilov calls for a referendum on the annexation of South Ossetia to Russia.

The current president of South Ossetia, Anatoly Bibilov, has called on a referendum in the breakaway state for annexation to the Russian Federation.

The supposed referendum is scheduled to be on July 17 on the issue of the republic joining the Russian Federation.

South Ossetia, officially the Republic of South Ossetia the State of Alania, is a breakaway Georgian state in the South Caucasus. Although Georgia does not control South Ossetia, the Georgian government and the United Nations consider the territory part of Georgia.
