New US Navy Triton drone will soon replace old patrol aircraft

A new US Navy MQ-4C Triton drone, equipped with a large number of sensors, made its first flight over Southern Maryland on July 29. The UAV, manufactured by Northrop Grumman, is part of the Navy's extensive maritime surveillance program and boasts next-generation sensors specifically designed for maritime operations. The US Audit Office says projected development costs for Triton increased 61% from $ 3.5 billion in 2009 to nearly $ 5.7 billion in 2018. The drone will replace the retired EP-3 aircraft and take over some of the capabilities of the Navy's P-8.
