2021-09-20 22:03:28 PERSISTENCE

In life, we are bound to encounter several challenges. Our eventual success— regardless of whatever venture we may engage in— is dependent on our willingness to persist and go the extra mile.

“The next mile is the only one a runner really has to make”
— Danish proverb

“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent”.
— Calvin Coolidge

2021-09-18 11:08:23 GOD NOT ONLY has characteristics, He has character. The characteristics of God are often spoken of – compassion, holiness, righteousness, justice, and mercy, to name a few. But the Bible speaks of God's character too — He is never changing: the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is faithful, trustworthy, true, and loyal. He can be counted on. His Word is everlasting. As a God of integrity, He desires a life of integrity in His followers.

Joining us today to discuss integrity is Dr. Kwaku Obeng Amponsah. We talk about what integrity is, why it’s important to be people of integrity, and how we often compromise on integrity.

INTEGRITY w/ Dr. Kwaku Obeng Amponsah — S03E01

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot”.
—Matthew 5:13

2021-09-13 11:18:44 MORE THAN A CONQUEROR

George Frederick Handel was at a low point in his life. His money was gone, and his creditors hounded him, threatening him with imprisonment. His right side became paralyzed, and his health deteriorated. For a brief time he was tempted to give up. In the midst of the darkness he picked himself up and began to do the only thing he knew to do – write music. Out of that despair he wrote the oratorio known as The Messiah, which many consider the greatest piece of christian music in history.

Without fire, there’s no refining.

Life is rife with struggles. Rather than allow ourselves to be defeated by our struggles, we could see them as opportunities to grow and develop in ways that otherwise would have been impossible. And that is how winners are made!

2021-09-06 17:12:37 VISUALIZE IT

Walt Disney never lived to see the opening of Disney World. During the opening ceremony, someone is reputed to have said to Walt’s wife, "It’s a shame Walt is not here to see this." She responded, "He did see it, or it wouldn’t have been here."

Vision is a picture of the desired future— it is a bridge between the present and the future. Vision points you in a direction. . . It gives us the opportunity to become more than you already are. A vision made plain gives you a standard to hold on to when things gets tough because you know "the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed. . ." Vision gives purpose to pain— it keeps you going, keeps you believing. . . A vision is a promise of the future. "Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come".

You need to have a vision. See what the future could be. Visualize it.

“Write the vision and make it plain on tablets. . . Though it tarries, wait for it;
Because it will surely come, it will not tarry
" — Habakkuk 2:2—4

2021-08-30 21:19:38 DON'T SETTLE FOR AVERAGE

Henry Kissinger, in his book The Whitehouse Years, tells of a Harvard professor who had given an assignment and now was collecting the papers. He handed them back the next day and at the bottom of one was written, “Is this the best you can do?”

The student thought, “no,” and redid the paper. It was handed in again, and received the same comment. This went on ten times, till finally the student said, “Yes, this is the best I can do.”

The professor replied, “Fine, now I’ll read it.”

More often than not, we go through life listlessly, making half-hearted marks whenever we are required to. But God has called us for more! In fact, He empowers us to strive for the utmost, for His glory. God demands our best, even in the seemingly little things.

So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
— 1 Corinthians 10:31, NET

But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, and in all eagerness and in the love from us that is in you—make sure that you excel in this act of kindness too.
— 2 Corinthians 8:7, NET

So as you set out this week to do anything — anything at all — how about you ask yourself: “Is this the best I can do?”

Strive for excellence.

“Average is the tombstone in which excellence is buried”.

2021-08-09 10:15:02 KEEP GOING

One of the world's toughest ultramarathons was a grueling 543.9 miles (875 km) race from Sydney to Melbourne, Australia. In 1983 about 150 runners, including a toothless 61-year old potato farmer and sheepherder named Ernest Clifford "Cliff" Young, converged for the event.

As Cliff mingled with the other runners at the starting line, spectators couldn’t believe their eyes. “This must surely be a joke!” some mused. When the gun went off and he was left behind in his galoshes and overalls as the other runners with their sculpted bodies and running gear briskly took the lead, bystanders snickered at him.

“Someone should stop that crazy old man before he kills himself!”

Five days, 15 hours, and 4 minutes later, however, Cliff Young came shuffling across the finish line in Melbourne, winning the race! He didn’t win by a few seconds, or even a few minutes. The nearest runner was 9 hours and 56 minutes behind him!

How did this even happen?

Well, everyone knew that the only way to win the ultra-marathon was to run for 18 hours, then stop and sleep for six hours. This routine was repeated for five punishing days. But no one told Cliff Young. He just shuffled along, day and night, night and day, without stopping to sleep. Cliff broke the previous race record by nine hours and became overnight a national hero.

“Endurance is not just the ability to bear a hard thing, but to turn it into glory”
— William Barclay

Endure. Keep going.
