2021-08-02 11:26:48 DON'T YOU QUIT!

Dreams donā€™t run out of steam ā€“ people do. Too often we give up too soon. We listen to the voice of the critics, whoā€™ve never accomplished anything themselves and never will. Thatā€™s why they criticize, saying, ā€œit canā€™t be done,ā€ because they havenā€™t done it. Or, we start looking at the odds instead of the evens; the minuses instead of the plusses; the negatives instead of the positives, or we look at the wind and the waves, taking our eyes off the goal, and start to sink.

In short, we give up on our dream and our whole world turns into a nightmare. Always has, always will.

The good book encourages us to ā€œfix our eyes on JESUS, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of Godā€ (Hebrews 12:2). What do you think kept JESUS going? A dream? Absolutely! His dream was seeing people, like you and me, get the opportunity to have our sins forgiven and a home in Heaven. His dream came at a high price. Most dreams do. His dream meant His own death in order that you and I might have life. And not just any old life, but ā€œlife more abundant!ā€

Don't you give up on your dream! Don't you quit!

2021-07-26 19:07:21 HOPE

Viktor Frankl, an Austrian psychologist, survived many death camps of Nazi Germany. Frankl was determined to know why some survived and some did not. He looked at several factors: health, vitality, family, survival skills, intelligence. He concluded that none of these factors was primarily responsible. The single most significant factor, he observed, and which impacted survival was a sense of future vision-- the conviction that they had a mission to perform, some important work left to do. Survivors of POW camps in Vietnam reported similar experiences: a compelling, future-oriented vision was the primary force that kept many of them alive.

". . . And this hope does not disappoint. . . "

2021-07-19 19:19:11 RE: FINISH

Derek Redmond is remembered for his staggering performance in the 400-meter menā€™s semifinals during the summer Olympics of 1992 in Barcelona, Spain.

After years of training, Derek was finally competing in the Olympics. His dream of competing in the 400-meter race at that level had become a reality. Halfway through the race though, Derek pulled a hamstring and fell down on the track. Writhing in pain, he watched the other runners quickly pass him by, but staying down wasnā€™t in Derekā€™s blood. Though winning was out of the question, finishing wasnā€™t!

As the medical crew arrived with a stretcher, Derek said, ā€œThereā€™s no way Iā€™m getting on that stretcher. Iā€™m going to finish my race.ā€ He struggled to his feet and began to hobble, determined to complete the race. His father ran from the stands to help him off the track, but the athlete refused to quit. Leaning on his father, the two limped to the finish line together, to deafening applause.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us"

2021-07-17 15:21:45 We live in a world where friendship is often defined as our ā€˜friendsā€™ and followers on social networking sites. We interact with people by posting photos and updates about our lives, and sharing funny videos. However, while these things can help us stay connected on some level, they are hardly the building blocks of a close relationship.

2021-07-05 18:57:52 PERSEVERE

Wilma Rudolph didn't get much of a head start in life. A bout with polio left her left leg crooked and her foot twisted inward so she had to wear leg braces. After seven years of painful therapy, she could walk without her braces. At age 12, Wilma tried out for a girls basketball team, but didn't make it. Determined, she practiced every day. The next year she made the team. When a college track coach saw her during a game, he talked her into letting him train her as a runner. By age 14, she had outrun the fastest sprinters in the U.S. In 1956 Wilma made the U.S. Olympic team, but showed poorly. That bitter disappointment motivated her to work harder for the 1960 Olympics in Rome-- and there Wilma Rudolph won three gold medals, the most a woman had ever won then.

Persevere.

2021-06-28 21:17:03 WHAT'S YOUR AIM?

Matt Emmons had the gold medal in sight. He was one shot away from claiming victory in the 2004 Olympic 50-meter three-position rifle event. He didn't even need a bull's-eye to win. His final shot merely needed to be on target.

Normally, the shot he made would have received a score of 8.1, more than enough for a gold medal. But in what was described as "an extremely rare mistake in elite competition," Emmons fired at the wrong target. Standing in lane two, he fired at the target in lane three. His score for a good shot at the wrong target? -- 0. Instead of a medal, Emmons ended up in eighth place.

It doesn't matter how accurate you are if you are aiming at the wrong goal. Where's your aim? What is your goal? In today's motivation, Komla Dumor admonishes us to aim for "excellence". Ready, aim, fire!

2021-06-21 20:27:16 IMAGINE

Several weeks after a young man had been HIRED for a job, he was called into the personnel directorā€™s office. ā€œWhat is the meaning of this?ā€ the director asked furiously. ā€œWhen you applied for this job, you told us you had five years experience. Now weā€™ve discovered this is the first job youā€™ve ever held.ā€

ā€œWell,ā€ the young man replied, ā€œin your advertisement, you said you wanted somebody with imagination.ā€

As humans, our ability to imagine, the ability to use our brains for higher functions, is what sets us apart from the rest of creation. In today's message, T. D. Jakes tells us it's "our defence".

"When God gives you an opportunity...when God gives you a tree... imagine what it can be".

The break you are looking for might just be in your ability to imagine the possibility. Look around you, look at what you have within you, and see what it can become.

Imagine what it can be... Just imagine

CHRISTIAN CHARACTER is essentially being like Christ. Our purpose and goal in Christian character is to become so one with Christ that when others see us, they see Jesus. But how do we get there?

We have just the right lesson for you-- CHRISTIAN CHARACTER 101--in the new issue Ā¬

2021-06-14 23:10:38 PURPOSE BEGETS DISCIPLINE

If you remember one thing from the 1981 British film Chariots of Fire, itā€™s probably the iconic music played while a pack of runners glide alongside the ocean. But in terms of the filmā€™s dialogue, thereā€™s one line that stands out. Eric Liddell is being reprimanded by his sister for devoting his focus toward competitive running. Liddell responds, ā€œI believe that God made me for a purpose... He made me fast, and when I run, I feel His pleasure".

Poised with purpose, and determination, Eric Lidell will go on to win several laurels for his country. And for God.

Today's motivation features a profound speech from John C. Maxwell about pursuing purpose and discipline.

"... it's the purpose that puts steal in the backbone of discipline"

____________________________

"We are the light of the world". If we are to remain relevant as such, it will take discipline-- it will take the discipline of staying in "character" to pursue moral excellence.

But first we must know our purpose here-- we are the light! It is the character of light to simply shine. So shine. Let's shine.
