THE LAMP DEVOTION

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 27

BE RECONCILED TO YOUR BROTHER

Matthew 18:15-17

_15 “Moreover if your brothe sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more, that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ 17 And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let him be to you like a heathen and a tax collector_

God knows very well that in our fellowship with one another, there will be offences. Our fallen nature always gives way to offences every now and then. Jesus therefore laid the foundation for handling offences when they happen. He specifically taught about handling disputes between believers.

God expects us to quickly reconcile with each other when we offend one another. In other words, we should constantly be reconciled with each other. What Jesus prescribes here is one process that we often find difficulty following. If a brother has an issue with another, instead of going to the one offended to settle the issue and live in reconciliation, we carry our hurts and build grudges against each other.
This is in direct contrast to what Jesus teaches. Sometimes believers prefer to move away from a brother or sister that hurt them rather than have the issue addressed for reconciliation to take place. This situation questions whether we understand what Jesus did for us on the cross. He who knew no sin was made sin for our sake so we can be forgiven and reconciled to God, yet we do not want to be reconciled with each other. That is not good Christian testimony so we must desist from that. Let’s be reconciled one to another.

Prayer
1. Thank God for reconciling you to Himself through the sacrificial death of our Lord Jesus.
2. Pray that all forms of bitterness will be out of your system so you can live in reconciliation with others.
3. Father, please set me free from the bondage of unforgiveness.

Declarations
I declare that I am free from the bondage of sin because Jesus took my sin upon Himself. Because I have been forgiven, I walk in forgiveness with all men, especially those of the household of faith. From today, I will live with my brethren as members in the same family of God in the name of Jesus.
