the Association of Art History in a post on Twitter complains that: "We found that the historic Imperial Gate of Hagia Sophia is in this condition and we photographed it, around 20:45 tonight (18.04.2022)"

After the public outrage caused by the images, Turkish authorities rushed to denounce the vandalism acts and promise that the perpetrators would be identified. Sadly as it is a Greek-made monument very little effort will likely be made to protect the monument and to identify or bring to justice those who caused such vandalism
"Oh noes, nobody expected Turks to be disrespectful towards a Christian monument after converting it into a mosque as a show of force and to disrespect its status once more" said the naive European and EU politicians
