European Commissioners in Athens: tax benefits are under the microscope.

The Greek economy is expected to pass through the «sieve» for the 12th time after the country’s withdrawal from the memorandum. The representatives of the creditors will come to Athens today for the 12th post-memorandum evaluation of the Greek economy to control the country’s finances and to give their approval or reject any decision of the government.

According to information received, in addition to the reforms that the Government will have to implement before the end of the year there are number of innovations, such as the support measures announced by the financial sector (specification of electricity, oil and gas prices) and the savings numbers must be summarized for the submission of the final draft budget to Parliament scheduled for 21 November.

Although, the activities of the Commissioners do not focus solely on governmental intervention. The inspectors are also expected to assess how Greece intends to distribute the "surplus" in the form of social dividend at the end of the year among low-income population, medical staff and pensioners. Tax incentives will also get "under a microscope", such as the abolition of the solidarity contribution in favor of the state and pensioners until 2022, the reduction of the commission tax, the tax advance will be maintained at 50%.

However, the new ENFIA scale is considered a "big headache" as it was announced that an additional 8% reduction, which the government declared for years, was frozen due to the pandemic and should be implemented next year. However, according to the information available, all these decisions and innovations of the Government may not achieve the required level of "relief for citizens", and therefore will be reviewed again.
