British soldiers of the Parachute Regiment enforce a curfew on Albany Street (Tel Aviv, 1946 or 47).
Mandatory Palestine remained British after the Second World War, but there was little will amongst the military to remain there.
"Tommy, go home" declared one graffito on a wall in Jerusalem, referring to the nickname for British soldiers. "I wish I fucking well could," the reply written underneath it said.

People in the Iron Age are often illustrated as having plain and dour clothing. However, much of the clothing we have recovered has aged so much that the dyes have dissolved. This article goes into the reconstruction of the colours from a dress in the Netherlands.

William Gifford Palgrave (1826–1888) (c. 1860s, somewhere in the Caucasus).
Palgrave was a British priest, soldier, traveller, and Arabist. He was the British Consul at Sukhum Kale (now Sukhumi, Abkhazia) in 1866, and moved to Trebizond (Trabzon, Turkey) in 1867. Here he poses in local Caucasian dress.

12 June 1817: Karl Drais rides his Laufmaschine (running machine) about 4 miles from Mannheim to Rheinau. The proto-bicycle sells, but roads at the time are rutted by years of travel from horses and carts. The result is that people take them on pavements, endangering pedestrians and leading to the newly nicknamed 'dandy-horse' being banned in many cities.
