Dear Soldiers,
This is a detailed plan of things I sticked to, I hope you will find it helpful.
As to listening subsection, I listened to podcasts-6 minute English from BBC and took notes of new words, useful expressions and collocations, important chunks of language that native speakers use. I also watched news in English. My favorite channels were Aljazeera, BBC, Bloomberg news and CNN and always wrote down new words even though I wasn't sure of their spelling. One can always write down new words phonetically and find out the correct spelling using the Internet. I believe we should develop excellent note taking skills if we are to succeed in this section.
One of the most important tips I can give is that there is no use doing endless number of practice tests if you donʼt analyze your mistakes.
In the listening part, I always read the listening scripts, worked on new words and listened to the audio again and again until understanding what was said in the listening tracks became a piece of cake for me.
To produce good essays, I read band 8+ sample essays and tried to use extremely useful expressions in my own essays. I took a look at different writing templates and various writing styles and came up with my own style that based on the combination of elements from those different essays.
I had my essay checked by several people who knew English better than me, because different people can see different angles, so in some sense, they complemented each other. I used the feedback I got from them to improve my essays.
To improve my pronunciation, I read the books and articles aloud, I know one can imagine on his own pronouncing words perfectly, but it is a totally different story when they really try to pronounce them correctly.
I tried to talk about what I was interested in to my friends and family even though they didn't understand me.
I also listened to conversations between native speakers to find out how they sounded and in what ways they made use of certain words and expressions.
I wish all IELTS Soldiers Best of the Luck and believe they can come to the place they wish too,
Cheers,
Alijon
