Muscle-controlled prosthetic limbs that patients with amputations across the globe currently use have various limitations and challenges. Good quality prosthetics parts are cumbersome, come with a complex setup, and require patients to undergo training for several months to learn their use. Interestingly, a new technology proposed by a team of researchers at the University of Minnesota (UMN) can overcome all such challenges.

It may sound like science-fiction, but the researchers claim that the new technology would allow patients to control robotic body parts using their thoughts. By employing artificial intelligence and machine learning, the researchers at UMN have developed a portable neuroprosthetic hand. The robotic hand comes equipped with a nerve implant linked to the peripheral nerve in a patient's arm.

A Starlink user is running their setup purely on solar energy, allowing them to live an enviable off-grid lifestyle.

The Starlink customer, Steve Birch, who works in facility management, is powering SpaceX’s internet service completely off-grid. The service, which has recently gained significant public attention for its role in the Ukraine conflict, allows users to access the internet almost anywhere — and Birch is taking that concept to its limits.

“Yes, during the summer, that was my goal [achieving infinite Wifi], and having it running 24/7,” Birch, told IE on a video call this week.

In January of 2022, we reported how Changpeng Zhao, known as “CZ” in the crypto world, the CEO of cryptocurrency exchange platform Binance, had the largest cryptocurrency fortune in the world, with an impressive net worth of 96 billion dollars.
His net worth at the time was larger than that of Asia’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, who had the 11th spot in the Bloomberg Billionaires Index with a whopping 93.3 billion dollars to his name. Bloomberg’s estimation of Zhao’s fortunes was founded on Binance’s 20 billion dollar increase in 2021 revenues and the entrepreneur’s 90 percent of the exchange’s shares.

Elon Musk, the ‘Technoking’ of electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and hopeful of being the CEO at Twitter, lost $12 billion of his personal worth on a day he chose to speak about his political preferences on Twitter.

Musk spends a lot of time on Twitter jokingly tweeting. Of late, he has shared broad ideas about changes that need to be made at Twitter, a company he dearly wants to acquire. On Wednesday, though, the Tesla CEO vented out some frustration and even tweeted about his political opinions.

As the day progressed, Tesla’s stock price sank to the lowest level in 2022, wiping out $12.3 of Elon Musk’s wealth.

The Moon’s violent volcanic past may provide a vital lifeline for astronauts on future missions.

Those characteristic dark splotches on the Moon, also known as lunar maria, originated billions of years ago when a series of volcanic eruptions took place on the lunar surface.
Now, a new paper from researchers at CU Boulder predicts that those volcanoes may have also left ice sheets behind that may measure up to hundreds of feet thick in parts.

Elon Musk might just find some people in San Diego to share his enthusiasm to build underground tunnels. U.S. authorities have found a 1,744-foot (531-m) passage connecting a warehouse in San Diego with Tijuana province in Mexico.

While we do accept that Musk’s intentions of building tunnels in cities are primarily for decongesting the roads and then pushing for the adoption of his electric cars, we do think that Musk might enjoy the ingenuity of the people who not only built a tunnel across an international border but also equipped it with a rail track, electricity, and ventilation system.

If you can’t beat them, steal their game.
This seems to be what NASA Administrator Bill Nelson thinks about China’s space program, since he broke the ice during a low-key House Appropriations Committee hearing by telling the world how he really feels about the growing competition in space ventures between the U.S. and China.

“Yes, they are pretty good at stealing,” declared Nelson according to an initial tweet quoting him from Space Policy Reporter Marcia Smith. But to Nelson, the solution should emphasize higher cybersecurity measures in the private sector, rather than greater innovation from NASA.

“We need to take cybersecurity very seriously in govt (sic) and private sector,” continued the tweet that quoted Nelson, from Smith.

One hundred and thirty feet offshore from the village of Noli in Italy’s Liguria region, six large clear domes, or biospheres, like a bloom of enormous jellyfish moored to the ocean floor are growing herbs, vegetables, and flowers.
The project is known as Nemo’s Garden, and it’s the world’s first—and only—underwater greenhouse. These biospheres utilize the ocean’s favorable environmental qualities like temperature stability, CO2 absorption, and natural pest control to create a habitat appropriate for producing a plethora of fresh produce, according to Euronews Green.

Researchers at the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in the U.K. have made significant progress in treating cataracts using a drug compound, paving the way for new treatment methods.
A cataract is a medical condition where the eye’s lens becomes clouded over some time and affects vision quality. The clouding is caused by the disorganization of the proteins present in the lens. This eventually leads to their clumping, which scatters light away from the retina, thereby reducing vision. According to estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), the condition affects approximately 65 million people globally, with moderate to severe vision loss seen in about 80 percent of the cases.
