Ṭalḥah al-Yāmī reported: I asked ʿAbd Allah b. Abī Awfá: “Did the Prophet ﷺ bequeath (ie: leave behind an inheritance with) anything?”
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ حَبِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ثنا الْحَرِيشُ بْنُ سُلَيْمٍ الْكُوفِيُّ، ثنا طَلْحَةُ الْيَامِيُّ، قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ أَبِي أَوْفَى: هَلْ أَوْصَى رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟

He said: “No.”
فَقَالَ: «لَا»

I then asked: “How is it that he commanded the people to leave a will, while he himself did not bequeath anything?”
فَقُلْتُ: فَلِمَ أَمَرَ بِالْوَصِيَّةِ وَلَمْ يُوصِ؟

He said: “He bequeathed the Book of Allah.”
قَالَ: «أَوْصَى بِكَتَابِ اللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ»
