When (Imām Aḥmad) was requested by al-Muʿtaṣim (ie: the ruler of his time) to discuss a certain matter with Ibn Abī Duwād (ie: the one who propagated that the Qurʾān was created), he (ie: Imām Aḥmad) turned his face away and said: “How can I converse with a person whom I have never seen at the door of any ʿālim (ie: scholar)?”
