2022-02-28 04:14:04 Maybank IBG Research “Regional Trader's Almanac" Weekly Edition 28 Feb 2022, ASEAN Equities: Buying Interest within Support, Rebound Ahead*

Looming technical rebound in the near term…

Although the FTSE ASEAN 40 Index traded higher last week, upside was capped within our resistance level with the index peaked at a high of 11,165. Subsequently, correction did take place and dragged the index lower, sliding below our immediate support at 10,850, almost breaching the 33-day SMA line. That said, buying interest emerged towards end of the week with the index forming a classic “harami” pattern right within the 61.8% FR level. We expect a technical rebound ahead underpinned by bullish readings in both RSI and DeTrend, with the upper resistance pegged at 10,910 and 11,165 while support is at 10,540 and 10,440.

This week, we highlight technically attractive stocks across multiple sectors in the ASEAN region.

MALAYSIA – Buy Mycron Steel & Only World Group
INDONESIA – Buy Bank Negara Indonesia & Vale Indonesia
PHILIPPINES – Buy Phillax Mining & Robinsons Retail Holdings
SINGAPORE – Buy SingTel & Delfi
THAILAND – Buy Osotspa & Carabao Group
VIETNAM – Digiworld & GELEX Group

OCBC Bank - Too much of a good thing?

OCBC missed. While rising rates could be a boon to interest income, their larger dependence on markets-linked income sources exposes it to volatility in the current geo-political backdrop. There is limited guidance on its large CET1 capital base. This could depress medium term ROEs vs. peers. While we do not expect a cap on growth from potential regulatory action against recent tech failures, it does create a negative newsflow overhang. We lower TP to SGD14.04. Downgrade to HOLD.

MY
o The selloff in overnight Wall Street amid growing geopolitical tension between the US and Russia as well as the wait for US GDP data later this week will likely keep the bulls at bay. That said, interest on plantation stocks will likely stay elevated after CPO price extended its rally. Technically, we expect the KLCI to range between 1,570pts and 1,610pts today, with supports at 1,570 and 1,530.

o Genting Plantations (GENP MK): 4Q21 core PATMI picked up strongly to beat our/consensus estimates. We expect GENP to deliver 6% in FY22E core PATMI growth on output recovery and better CPO ASP (as FY21’s net CPO ASP was watered down by earlier forward sales and Indonesia’s punitive export taxes in 1H21). Maintain BUY with a new TP of MYR8.95 after rolling forward valuation to FY23E on revised 23x PER, its updated -1SD of 8Y mean (previously MYR8.28 TP on 24x FY22E PER, at -1SD of 8Y mean).

o AEON Co. (M) (AEON MK): 4QFY21 results outperformed our expectations on higher-than-expected core segment margins. As the pandemics adverse effects on consumer consumption gradually subside, we expect earnings momentum to continue growing in FY22. Our FY22-FY23 earnings estimates are lifted by 18%-19% and we introduce our FY24 estimates. We raise our TP to MYR2.20 based on higher 25x FY22 PER (mean, vs. 22x FY22 PER previously [-0.5SD to mean]) to reflect AEON’s earnings recovery to pre-pandemic levels in FY22. Maintain BUY.

o Reservoir Link (RLEB MK): Its wholly-owned subsidiary Reservoir Link S/B was awarded a contract by Tanjung Offshore Services S/B, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of *T7 Global (T7G MK)*, to provide perforation wash and cement equipment and services package at the latter’s M3 field, offshore Bintulu. The value of the contract will be based on the number of wells executed. Stock trades at 13.6x trailing 12-month EPS. It is sitting on a net cash of MYR14.4m at end-Dec 2021.

2022-02-25 03:54:48 Bursa market outlook: Can the 1,570 support hold?

Most Asian stock markets tumbled yesterday after Russia attacked Ukraine. The local benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI) also fell 12.25pts or 0.77% to end the day at 1,573.89. All the sectors ended lower except for plantation (+1.93%) and energy (+1.79%), which rallied on the back of rising commodity prices. FBMACE (-3.76%), transportation (-2.67%), technology (-2.26%) and healthcare (-2.17%) were the main laggards yesterday. Trading volume surged to 5.51bn (2.97bn previously) while trading value climbed to RM4.12bn (RM2.69bn previously). Market breadth turned negative once more as 960 decliners thumped 256 gainers.

The benchmark fell to a low of 1,565 intra-day, briefly falling below the 1,567 low but at the close, KLCI managed to close within the 1,570-1,580 range. There is no change to our sideways view for now as we expect more sideways churn in the near term. On the topside, the resistances at 1,590 and 1,600 are likely to keep rallies in check. Any close below Thursday’s low of 1,565 may warn that further downside to test the 200-day EMA may be next. Our portfolio is in *risk-on mode* now.
