The US unemployment figures only seem as the end of the world. Once US opens again most of the people who filed will come back to jobs while money received by now would help keeping up consumer spending at substantial levels.
The US Treasury disbursed $146 billion in unemployment benefits in the three months through May, more than in the whole of 2009, when jobless rates peaked after the financial crisis. But even that historic figure falls short of a total bill that should have reached about $214 billion for the period, according to Bloomberg calculations: https://bloom.bg/2Xpd4UD
