“As you know I was a surgical assist for an ob/gyn group for 30 years. I have assisted on many ectopic pregnancies (some with a heartbeat) it broke my heart every time I had to help remove it. But I knew the mother would die if we didn’t and there was no way the baby would make it to the uterus. When you take out a 6-9 week baby you don’t see much because the tissue is so friable and it comes out unrecognizable. BUT there was one time years ago when the surgeon opened the Fallopian tube , it was an 8-9 week pregnancy, the baby fell out in tact. I carefully used my grasper and grabbed the umbilical cord and carefully brought it out my scope port. It got caught in the valve of the trocar and the surgeon released the valve and it blew out on my surgical gown. I carefully put it on my finger and looked at it in awe and amazement. There were black dots for the eyes, tiny arms and legs. I got emotional and the surgeon scolded me and said “don’t you cry” to which I said “it’s a baby”. I will never forget that little one! Jack, one day I will see that baby in heaven and you will see all the ones you fought so hard to save!! If we love them and grieve for them, how much more does God! Have a blessed evening!”
