I have trained my thinking to personify an idea, imagine that idea walking into the throne room of my heart where Christ is unquestionably seated, while He rules & reigns.
The idea is forced to its knees. The guard (my conscience, trained by the Bible) stands behind the kneeling idea with a big, sharp spear at the idea’s back.
The idea makes its case to Christ. Christ, using the Bible as His standard for decision-making, either approves or disapproves of the idea.
If approved, the the idea is free to be integrated into my thinking and be applied where useful. Keep in mind, that any and every idea is always up for review any time the Bible (in my daily reading) identifies a conflict, or by my conscience, which, then relitigates the aforementioned review process in front of the King.
If disapproved, the the idea is killed by the spear and the way the idea entered my heart (source of news, opinion, book, conversation, pulpit, etc) is tied to that idea and the infiltration is catalogued so as to bolster the guards on duty to defend Christ’s throne room from any additional ideas that unnecessarily take His time.
To substitute an alternative, bc things cut off “cold turkey” need an alternative to displace or redirect thoughts, the Bible is studied to learn how God thinks, how He builds, how He conquers, and what He wants me to do to follow Him.
If I am busy kneeling in front of King Christ asking for guidance & direction, then the guards dont have as much time to let foreign ideas in to the throne room for Christ to inspect.
The King rules by commanding & judging. If I let foreign (non-Bible ideas) in, then Christ is spending His time judging. If, by contrast, I ask for guidance/blessing to do things for His kingdom, then He gives commands & walks with me as I war for Him.
Train your mind. Guard your heart.
Political commentary is designed to entertain & entertainment has been infiltrated to oust Christ from His throne in people’s hearts.
