(ii) C4 plants have evolved a mechanism to deliver CO2 to Rubisco through the help of PEPcase enzyme which is a strong CO2 fixing enzyme. Plants also lose water vapor through their stomata, which means that they can die from dehydration in dry conditions as they keep their stomata open for photosynthesis. In response, plants close their stomata to prevent dehydration. So, even when CO2 concentration is very low in the cell (when stomata are closed) PEPcase bind to the CO2 (because of high affinity of PEPcase to CO2) and fix it. (iii) Concentric arrangement of mesophyll cells (mesophyll cells are arranged in the form of a ring around the bundle sheath cells) produces a smaller area in relation to volume for better utilization of available water and reduce the intensity of solar radiations.
