For years, Telegram users have been able to temporarily mute chats to take a break from notifications, like for 8 hours or 2 days. Now you can also pause notifications for a specific duration, like the length of a midday nap or extended vacation.

Each chat has a streamlined menu for modifying alerts – choose Disable Sound to receive notifications silently, or one of the Mute options to turn off notifications completely.

On Android, tap 'Notifications' on a chat's info page or 3 dot menu > Mute in the chat header. On iOS, tap 'Mute' on a chat's info page.

You can now turn any sound into a notification tone, creating custom alerts from your favorite music or even memes (and meows). Tap a short audio file or voice message in chat to instantly add it to your list of notification sounds, which you can assign to any chats.

Telegram tones are cross-platform and completely free – as they should be.

You can access your sounds on all your devices via Settings > Notifications and Sounds. There you can add new tones and set sounds for individual chats or entire groups of chats.

Tones currently support audio files and voice messages under 5 seconds up to 300 KB in size. Try some samples made by Telegram team in the Notification Sounds channel.

Anyone can create a unique @username from the Settings page – giving others an easy way to contact you via Search or your t.me/username link without sharing your phone number.

This update also allows you to share a direct t.me link to your phone number that instantly opens a chat with you.

format for these links is t.me/+123456789, with the full phone number in international format.

Naturally, the link will only work if your privacy settings let others find you by your phone number.

When sending multiple photos or videos, tap '… selected' at the top of the panel to preview how the album will look in the chat when it’s sent – and rearrange or remove selected media.

On iOS, the Attach attachment menu has been fully redesigned to catch up with the Android app. The in-app camera option is now beautifully integrated into the gallery and a new navigation bar gives quick access to photos, files, location sharing and more.

The updated Files tab shows recently sent files and lets you search for them by name.
