The children and young people at Kijana Kwanza in Moshi, Tanzania, have put on their first drama production. In this story, King Ngowi (Jordan) announces that he will take another wife (Pili), unleashing a sinister plot in the palace involving his first wife (Lulu) and a witch doctor (Saidi). The audience is entertained by the town crier (Erick) who confuses his public announcements and a dopey sentinel (Lukumani), who regularly falls asleep on the job. Through storytelling and creative expression, our young people acquire the confidence to explore social and cultural attitudes in society, as well as make sense of their own traumatic stories of abandonment, abuse and rejection.
