Facts do not cease to exist because they are ignored. If we only look to confirm our beliefs, we will never discover if we're wrong. Be self-critical and unlearn your best-loved ideas. Search for evidence that disconfirms ideas and assumptions. Consider alternative outcomes, viewpoints, and answers. Have someone tell you when your thinking is wrong. When you find information that contradicts your existing beliefs, you've got a special obligation to look at it - and quickly.

Warren Buffett Says

The most important thing to do when you find youtself in a hole is to stop digging. Merely because you've spent money or time on some project or investment doesn't mean you must continue to spend it in the future. Time, effort, and money spent are gone. Decisions should be based on where you want to be. Not where you've been. Base decisions on the present situation and future consequences. What happened in the past may be a guide for estimating how likely something is to happen in the future. Ask: What do I want to achieve? What causes that? Considering what I know today and what is likely to happen in the future, how should I act to achieve my goal? Will new money and time invested achieve my goal? Assume I never invested in this and it was presented to me for the first time, would I invest in it today? If not, then stop and do something about it

ENVY

Understand: Gossip is a frequent cover for envy, a convenient way to vent it by sharing malicious rumors and stories. When enviers/backbiters talk about others behind their backs, you will see their eyes light up and their voice become animated—it gives them a joy comparable to schadenfreude . They will elicit any kind of negative report about a common acquaintance. A frequent theme in their gossip is that no one’s really that great, and people aren’t what they pretend to be.

If you ever get wind of a story they have spread about you, subtly or not so subtly negative, only one such instance should be enough to raise your antennae. What indicates active envy in this case is that they are your friend and they feel the need to vent their underlying hostility to a third party rather than keep it to themselves.

Dealing with Envy

If you have any natural gifts that elevate you above others, you must be aware of the dangers and avoid flaunting such talents. Instead you want to strategically reveal some flaws to blunt people’s envy and mask your natural superiority. If you are gifted in the sciences, make it clear to others how you wish you had more social skills. Show your intellectual clumsiness at subjects outside your expertise. You can have a similar effect by discussing the mistakes you have made in the past and showing some selective awkwardness in certain areas that do not diminish your overall reputation.

If possible, get some physical distance as well— cut off contact. Do not imagine you can somehow repair the relationship. Your generosity in trying this will only intensify their feelings of inferiority. They will strike again. By all means defend yourself from any public attacks or gossip that they spread, but do not harbor revenge fantasies. The envier is miserable. The best strategy is let to them stew in their “cold poison” from a distance, without any future means of wounding you. Their chronic unhappiness is punishment enough.

2021-12-11 17:36:45 Educate yourself about the Basics

In reality, most things are simpler than you think. You don’t need to attend expensive aerobics classes to become fit. There’s no need to buy pricey home-delivered meals designed by some renowned doctor to lose weight. An investment advisor can often deliver worse results than if you were to educate yourself with free articles and invest on your own. Whenever you want to make a change in your life and find that everywhere you look, companies involved in the industry make it complicated, step aside and review the fundamentals. Somehow people were still fit before the advent of commercial gyms. They still managed to build successful businesses without Internet gurus. It was still possible to eat healthily in a world where bookstores weren’t filled to the brim with diet books. Don’t use the fact that the industry makes things complicated as an excuse not to make a change. Educate yourself about the basics and draw your own conclusions. For you to make a change in your life, no expensive coach is necessary.

Affairs with X and Y: The Human Conundrum

One thing about me - I always observe. You could walk into a room and you prolly won't notice me. I watch everyone. Not because I want to, but because people perplex me. Humans fascinate me. Nothing ever misses my four eyes. Don't get me wrong though, I am no creep. I don't invade anyones privacy. I just watch and notice small details that would otherwise escape a normal person.

Long story short; I've watched many people but what have I really taken out of it? "The wise man knows he knows nothing, the fool thinks he knows all." The ancient Chinese didn't get it wrong there. Socrates also had to say this - " The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing!"

Puzzling is that, we humans are cut from the same cloth yet so different at the same time. In my recent encounters I've come across two types of people. Let me call them X and Y. Y is this mysterious person you struggle to understand. Day one you see him and you think you really know him. Day two he displays another side of him and you think you've fully gotten to know the real him. Day 3 he pulls out a totally different card you didn't think a person like him is capable of and you're left pondering who really is this person. Fast forward, you've interacted with him for more than six months and you still don't get him. His is a real life puzzle. A puzzle too complex for a narrow-minded person to fathom. Y's mystery is more challenging to solve than a sudoku puzzle. He does all this with a surprising subtlety and with a manner not intimidating to those who surround him.

Y is this peculiar individual who has mastered the art of telling you little about themselves but doing it in such a way you think you know a lot. Mind you, he does this in humility because he is as wise as a serpent and as harmless as a dove. Strive to be Y if you love yourself. Personally, I'm still on a journey to be Y. It ain't easy though. After all, when you're great it is really difficult to be humble. The will must be stronger than the skill.

Let's now get to my main topic of contention. The group of people who inspired me to bore you with this article.
X is this person who thinks of himself so highly. He thinks he holds the key to knowledge. A typical know-it-all. Person X has this innate superiority complex. Just because they know something, they think you don't. If X shows you something they suddenly brag of how you wouldn't know such stuff if it weren't them. No offence, but X is a character with a bloated ego and an illusioned sense of self-entitlement.

Don't be X. People will avoid you. With time, your knowledge will drive you down a path. A path that will dismally lead to your downfall. One thing you have to understand is that, every person in this world you meet knows something you don't. After all, no one person has the monopoly to wisdom and knowledge. Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and the ilk were the true encapsulation of wisdom and knowledge but they didn't go around displaying it. Ask yourself why?
