Haircut of recruits of the Women's Death Battalion, 1917.

The ranks of the "percussionists" consisted primarily of female soldiers from front-line units (the Russian Imperial Army had a small number of female soldiers, all of whom were authorized by the Supreme Court, and among them were even knights of the St. George), but also women from civil society - noblewomen, college girls, teachers and female workers. A large proportion were women soldiers and Cossacks.

Soldiers of the Women's Battalion of Bochkareva wore the symbol of "Adam's head" on their chevrons. Women underwent medical examinations and had their hair cut almost naked.
