A person’s level of intelligence was related to their psychological response to COVID-19 pandemic, according to new research published in the Journal of Personality. The study found that more intelligent people tended to be less happy with their lives during the pandemic than their less intelligent counterparts.

The new findings provide evidence that higher intelligence can have a downside in the modern world and support a growing body of research known as the savanna theory of happiness.

The savanna theory of happiness posits that it is not only the current consequences of a given situation that affect happiness but also its ancestral consequences, and that the effect of ancestral consequences on happiness is stronger among less intelligent individuals. But what about situations that did not exist in the ancestral environment and thus have no ancestral consequences? Global pandemic is one such situation that has no ancestral analog, and the theory predicts such evolutionarily novel threats to have a negative effect disproportionately on the life satisfaction of more intelligent individuals.

• Practice saying "no" to strangers – consultants in stores, waiters, neighbors.
• Choose an acceptable form of refusal for yourself. Sharp, soft, playful or serious – there are many options.
• The fear of rejection is the fear that you will be judged. You very well might be, so what? It's just someone's opinion...

Of course, there will be people who will not accept you and your "no", even your loved ones will not like it. But those to whom you are important, who want to be close, respect you, will stay close.
