Any candidate who receives fewer than 30 nominations from the 358 total Conservative MPs will be chopped from the race, with the least backed candidate cut if all reach 30 supporters.
Sunak has been slated for apparently undercutting rivals by lending support to others he is confident of beating, while Nadhim Zahawi has said he would offer Johnson a position if elected.
Wednesday’s vote will be completed by 15:30 BST with the results announced later in the day.
