#ThisDay, the Western Carpathian Strategic Offensive Operation was completed during the Great Patriotic War.
The operation resulted in the liberation of the major part of Slovakia, and southern regions of Poland, causing large casualties on 17 enemy divisions and brigades. The enemy lost over 2,300 guns and mortars, 320 tanks and assault cannons, as well as other military hardware.
