2022-03-19 02:00:00 ​​It was Syuhairah Bte Hassan's childhood dream to be a pre-school teacher, and COVID-19 made her dream come true for her.

The former flight attendant wanted to return to the aviation industry, but it was badly hit amid the pandemic. She was then introduced to the Career Conversion Programme (CCP) by her sisters, which allowed her to become a pre-school teacher.

Syuhairah is now a trainee teacher attached to My First Skool at Blk 269 Compassvale Link and is undergoing the CCP. She will graduate in August 2022. She finds the journey rewarding, especially as she gets to build rapport with the children while watching them grow from their very first day at school.

2022-03-03 02:00:00 ​​Since 2018, interacting with our adorable children from My First Skool (MFS) (Kampung Admiralty) has been the weekly highlight for seniors at the Active Ageing Hub (AAH).

This beloved tradition has endured the pandemic, and has since transformed into a virtual affair. The fun and laughter between the young and old through exercise sessions and virtual puppet performances were recently documented in a CNA documentary titled 'Singapore in Red, Green, Blue'.

2022-02-08 14:00:28 ​​Noise-absorbing panels, sensory play items and wobbly chairs - these are some modifications at the two NTUC First Campus' (NFC) inclusive pre-schools which will support children with special needs from February 2022. NFC's philosophy is to keep the classroom setting as natural as possible with slight modifications to better support the needs of the children. The two schools are My First Skool (Block 248 Kim Keat Link) and My First Skool (Block 406 Woodlands).

"Ultimately, inclusive education goes beyond facilities and it is about different partners coming together to understand the children’s needs," said Deniece Bidhiya, NFC’s acting head of inclusion, in an interview with Straits Times.

Kum Foong Yee worked in the aviation industry for a decade as an Airline Representative. After taking on administrative work during the COVID-19 pandemic, she noticed her two-year-old son developing exponentially and could play on his own independently, after attending infant care at My First Skool. Intrigued by his development, Foong Yee enrolled in the Diploma (Conversion) in Early Childhood Care & Education - Teaching in August 2021, and is now undergoing the programme at the National Institute of Early Childhood Development. She also works a few days a week at My First Skool (Rivervale Crescent) centre as a Trainee Teacher to gain hands-on experience. Foong Yee has since learned that being a pre-school teacher is not just about taking care of children but nurturing them. Open / Comment
