Clarification:
In the Buddhism and Jainism module, we have provided that
Revata presided over the 2nd Buddhist Council. While in many other references,
Sabakami (also called Sarvagamin) is given the answer.
See, the thing is that during the 2nd Buddhist Council, there was a dispute on some 10 Buddhist disciplines, and so two juries were formed -
one was headed by Revata and the other by Sabakami. In many accounts, it is said that
Revata played the most prominent part here. But
Sabakami was the oldest Buddhist, around 120 years apparently, so as an honorific, some sources give precedence to him. The conclusion is,
both Revata and Sabakami will be correct.
tl;dr - Both
Revata and Sabakami would be correct for the chief priest of
2nd Buddhist Council.
