Some facts on Agriculture:
1. Note that the
share of agriculture in GDP increased (yes it has increased!) to 19.9 per cent in 2020-21 from 17.8 per cent in 2019-20.
2. The last time the GDP share of agriculture was at 20 per cent was in 2003-04.
3. The recent increase is
mainly due to COVID-induced economic slowdown where other sectors suffered a loss in GDP share.
4. Agriculture provides livelihood support to about two-thirds of country’s population. It
employs ~ 58% of the country’s workforce.

On export front: agriculture and allied products have seen an increase => How much? From $38.43 billion in 2017-18 and (slight increase to) $38.74 billion in 2018-19 to $41.25 billion in 2020-21
(17.34% increase).
6. In imports
: India imported $20.57 billion worth agricultural and allied products during 2020-21.
7. So, it turns out that despite COVID-19,
Balance of Trade (exports minus imports) in agriculture in 2020-21 was $20.68 billion.
