#WeatherWednesday #DidYouKnow that the most common type of lightning in Singapore is called Forked Lightning? Categorised as a cloud-to-ground lightning, it is one of the most dangerous forms of lightning and a typical flash lasts just a quarter of a second. Refuse and recyclables collection in the Ang Mo Kio-Toa Payoh sector gets a technological upgrade. 800 Super will also be implementing trials to install sensors in recycling bins in HDB estates, and smart lockers to collect food waste. https://go.gov.sg/new-pwc-amk-tpy-commences-1-oct-2021

We can’t leave out the signature carrot cake when talking about #OurHawkerCulture, and no, we don’t mean the dessert! Also known as Chai Tow Kway, this savoury dish is made from rice flour and radish.

The ozone layer is constantly under threat due to an increase in ozone-depleting gases, putting our Earth at risk of the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation.
This World Ozone Day, let us remind each other to make a conscious effort to reduce our carbon footprint!

We are aware of a post circulating via WhatsApp about hawker centres being closed today. This is a usual list referring to hawker centres that are closed for regular spring cleaning and Repairs & Redecoration works. Routine spring cleaning is conducted quarterly, and can vary in duration from 1 to 3 days. Regular cleaning will enhance the cleanliness of our hawker centres, allowing patrons to dine in a clean, hygienic and safe environment. Refer to our NEA website to find out which centres are closed before heading out - https://www.nea.gov.sg/our-services/hawker-management

No, enforcement will not be taken against the elderly or children, who are unable to clear the tables themselves. These groups would typically be unable to order and bring food to the tables on their own to begin with, and would probably have someone to accompany them. If you’re dining out with the elderly or children, do help them clear their tables. Have more questions about the table littering enforcement, which will be commencing tomorrow? Check out the list of #FAQs at www.nea.gov.sg/clean-tables

Having zi char or steamboat and wondering how you’d clear the many plates and steamboat equipment after eating? Don’t worry, stalls selling zi char and steamboat will have service staff to serve food to your table, and to clear the table during and after your meal.

Have more questions about the table littering enforcement, which will be commencing on 1 Sep? Check out the list of #FAQs at www.nea.gov.sg/clean-tables
