Dear friends/colleagues, happy to share with you my second policy brief for Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) this year: "A Political Deprem? The Impact of the Earthquake on #Türkiye's Domestic Politics". Where I argue that Türkiye is a central power in the Middle East, and any political shift in the domestic balance of power will have an impact on the political landscape of the region. During the last two decades, Erdoğan has frequently harnessed past crises and turned them to his advantage. Whether he will be able to manage this crisis and also turn it to his advantage is yet unknown. The paper will analyze the impact of the earthquake on Türkiye’s domestic politics amid the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections. It will also look at the internal dynamics in the opposition that are crucial indicators to shape the outcome of the elections, as Türkiye prepares to celebrate its 100th anniversary in October.
