Biden to announce new gun regulations and name ATF candidate
Joe Biden announced new gun regulations Monday designed to limit the use of
privately manufactured guns, senior administration officials said, as he comes under pressure to take additional steps to address the
nation's gun violence crisis.
The so-called
"ghost guns" ordinance - unregulated, untraceable, kit-built weapons - would close a
critical gap in the government's ability to trace them by requiring background checks before purchase and serial numbers on some components.
Biden has named
Steve Dettelbach, a
former U.S. attorney from Ohio, as his nominee to head the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The previous presidential nominee was forced to leave because of opposition in the
Senate.
