The Black-naped Tern (
Sterna sumatrana) is a resident seabird that can be found throughout Singapore’s waters.
These birds truly live life on the edge, as they lay a single egg on remote rocky outcrops with barely any nesting material!
As Singapore’s only regularly nesting seabird, the Black-naped Tern was also featured on our $1 “Bird Series” currency notes between 1976 and 1984.
