These brilliant blue flowers belong to the Delek Air (
Memecylon ovatum), a native shrub or tree which grows in thickets along coastal cliffs and rocky seashores.
It is often mistaken for similar-looking coastal species like the
Memecyclon edule and
Memecylon oleifolium, which all have the ability to tolerate waterlogged and saline soils. Nevertheless, they can still be differentiated by comparing their flowers, fruits and foliage.
