Issue #274 | How Jerry Rice Became the Greatest Football Player in History

Many experts believe that Jerry Rice, who played in the NFL as a wide receiver for 21 seasons, 16 of which with the San Francisco 49ers, is the greatest football player in history. Besides having won three Super Bowls, he holds a dozen all-time league records, many of which seem destined never to be surpassed.

How did he get there? As James Clear explains in today’s nugget, it wasn’t that Rice was necessarily a once-in-a-generation talent. Instead, it was all about his deliberate practice. For example, Rice was famous for the intensity of his workouts. What’s more, he focused on the areas where he had the greatest leverage: He didn’t need to do everything perfectly, and so he concentrated on the aspects that played to his strengths.

Issue #273 | Spend Your Time on the Few Things That Truly Matter

Why do we spend so much time on things that don’t matter all that much? Sebastian Marshall, posting on LessWrong, points out that, typically, there are few things in our life and work that have a disproportionate impact on our success. Yet we fail to reallocate our time accordingly.

Marshall doesn’t have an answer as to why this is the case. Perhaps general akrasia? Procrastination? Or fear of standing out? But he makes a compelling case for us to be a lot more rational and resolute about managing our scarcest resource: time.

Hey Nuggeteers!

As Derek Sivers pointed out in issue 225, we had better perceive every serious step in our professional career or personal life as an experiment to see what happens!

Putting Derek’s advice into practice, why not take a look at the Scholarship channel, choose an offer that interests you, and enjoy a world-class education at the top institutions across the globe?

We hope this source will be helpful for you

In today’s nugget, published by How Stuff Works, Dave Roos introduces us to a simple, but powerful, hack for improving the quality of your sleep: Wear socks at bedtime.
