Al-Bukhārī may Allah have mercy on him said: Chapter: The Prohibition of excessive questioning and delving into matters which does not concern one’s self, and the saying of the Most High: “O you who believe, do not ask about things which, if they were made known to you, might make things difficult for you.” [5:101]
قال البخاري رحمه الله: باب ما يكره من كثرة السؤال وتكلف ما لا يعنيه: وقوله تعالى: {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ لاَ تَسْأَلُواْ عَنْ أَشْيَاء إِن تُبْدَ لَكُمْ تَسُؤْكُمْ} [المائدة: 101]:

Narrated by Saʿd b. Abī Waqqāṣ that the Prophet ﷺ said, “The most sinful person among the Muslims is the one who asked about something which had not been prohibited, but was prohibited because of his asking.”
حدثنا عبد الله بن يزيد المقريء حدثنا سعيد حدثني عقيل عن ابن شهاب عن عامر بن سعد بن أبي وقاص عن أبيه أن النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم قال: «إن أعظم المسلمين جرماً من سأل عن شيء لم يحرم فحرم من أجل مسألته».
