Some "
Instagram teachers" are FLABBERGASTING, you know. The way they teach you new vocabulary is, like, way off.
Yesterday, I saw a video where some Instagram blogger is teaching "
advanced alternatives" for everyday simple words. They were:
Flabbergasted for amazed,
preliminary for previous,
top-notch for great, and
sophisticated for difficult.
Now, at first glance, there's nothing wrong with these words, but the way he presented them was totally incorrect. You can't tell people there's absolutely no difference between "previous" and "preliminary", or between "difficult" and "sophisticated", because there actually is a big difference between these combos. Here's a few examples:
1) Otabek is a very
difficult person to deal with.
2) Sadly, I couldn't pass my History exams the
previous year.
3) It would be
great if we could visit Samarqand this summer.
I challenge you to change these adjectives in the examples above into
sophisticated, previous, and
top-notch without being laughed at. In reality, it's actually very difficult (not sophisticated) to find the absolute synonym for a word.
Long story short, be careful who you follow on Instagram. Better still, follow credible teachers with experience and a good grasp of English such as ozodbek_ielts.
Have a top-notch day, everyone.
