His willingness to help is mentioned in a letter written in 1921 by Chaim Weizmann (later the first president of Israel) to the Zionist Organization of America regarding efforts to purchase arms for the terrorist group Haganah.

Patterson’s association with his friend Jabotinsky continued until the latter died in New York in 1940.

Patterson wrote the conclusion to Jabotinsky’s The War and the Jew, published in 1942, and the foreword to the English edition of Jabotinsky’s The story of the Jewish Legion, published in 1945.

As late as 1941 Patterson was involved in setting up an Emergency Committee for an Army of Stateless and Jews.

Patterson was the commander of the Jewish Legion, "the first Jewish fighting force in nearly two millennia", and has been described as the godfather of the modern Israel Defense Forces.

Patterson was close friends with many Zionist supporters and leaders, among them Ze'ev Jabotinsky and Benzion Netanyahu. According to Benzion's younger son Benjamin Netanyahu, who later became Prime Minister of Israel, Benzion named his first son, Yonatan Netanyahu, after Patterson

Jabotinsky’s offer to continue with the Jewish Legion after the war was turned down, and he turned his focus to the Jewish Terrorist group in Palestine, the Haganah.

According to Patterson's grandson, Alan Patterson, one of his final wishes was that both he and his wife eventually be interred in Israel

He was an Evangelical Christian — a believer in the “imminent second coming of Christ” dependent on the return of the Jews to Palestine.

His mother in law would go on to marry future Prime Minister Lord Palmerston (there were valid rumours that Palmerston was actually the father of Shaftesbury’s wife as he was having an affair with her mother).
Whatever the truth he had close connections to the future Prime Minister of Britain.

in 1838, Lord Shaftesbury had prepared a memorandum for the Foreign Secretary (at the time), Lord Palmerston, suggesting Jewish settlement in Palestine under British guarantees.

This would actually be the precursor of the Balfour Declaration of November 1917.

Peter Stuyvesant was a Dutch colonial officer who served as the last Dutch director-general of the colony of New Netherland from 1647

Stuyvesant was the final and most famous governor of the Dutch colony of New Amsterdam before it was ceded to the British and became New York City. Stuyvesant initially refused to allow Jews to settle permanently in New Amsterdam, and while he later changed his mind, he made them pay a special tax.

He also referred to Jews as “the deceitful race, such hateful enemies and blasphemers of the name of Christ.”
