2022-08-06 15:52:53 We all share so much of ourselves on social media — wins, losses, major life moments — but does it lead to a more connected life?

Actress Bryce Dallas Howard shares her hard-earned lessons on how preserving your private life makes a public life worth living: http://t.ted.com/72Y2irb

Loved this video!

You know why we share things on social media? Because we do care about attention of others, we do care what people think of us, letting alone of taking into account what we actually feel.

2022-07-28 16:27:54 Do you usually have the cases when the members of other generations try to trick you into their beliefs? If yes, how do you get out of it?

A generation gap refers to the chasm that separates the beliefs and behaviors belonging to members of two different generations.

The generation gap occurs because society is constantly changing. It is the responsibility of both generations to fill this gap with love, affection, and trust

2022-07-09 22:57:43 IELTSman vs. Freshman

We have this inside joke at Freshman about a prototype of a student, who we call an “IELTSman”. We will describe this prototype below, so you can tell us in the @freshmanchat if you know such people too.

IELTSman is a student who is mesmerized with an idea of getting a high IELTS score (typically, it is 8.0 or even 8.5) often because of a social status or a certain prestige that is associated with it in an "IELTS nerds" community. IELTSmen spend a ridiculous amount of time preparing for the exam, searching for "IELTS tips" or special "essay templates".

If they learn any English words, these are always "IELTS words" that should certainly be academic and "sound smart". If IELTSmen ever think about anything, it is always in the format of an IELTS "advantages/disadvantages" essay. When they talk with others, whether in English or even in their own language, they always start with words like "if I had a chance.." or "from the top of my head...". Sometimes, they habitually give their identification to people, even if it is not really necessary.

The only tragic moment in the life of IELTSmen is that IELTS preparation does not always translate into getting prepared for a university or even getting accepted. IELTSmen almost always get into mediocre universities and study with people who are of a much lower academic level than them, while eventually losing all their academic skills.

That's why at Freshman, we set ourselves a goal of preparing freshmen at truly amazing universities, while helping our students get full and partial scholarships. We are trying to teach skills that will be helpful even beyond IELTS or SAT preparation, something that will stay with them for life.

Join Freshman Academy and never be an IELTSman - BE A FRESHMAN!

2022-06-21 20:40:06 Hey, guys! How are you all doing? I know it has been only a week or two since most of you finished your studies and you might have started struggling with laziness, which is almost hard to resist, especially in summer.

Actually, it is totally ok to get a good rest after all this daunting study year, but take this break to redeem yourself and get busy with learning new things and skills with more motivation and energy.
Here are things I would suggest you to get busy with this summer:

1. Do what you have been putting off for later. It can be getting driving license, going swimming etc.

2. Start learning a new language. Since you already know English, why not to take up learning another language. Español, maybe?

3. Read books. Recommend reading as much as needed. Don’t read self-help books, rather go for novels.

4. Do internship. What I like about internships is that you are not really expected to know what to do exactly, but learn what you don’t know. Certainly will be of great help for ur future career.

5. Just detox. Get away from toxic people. Delete any social media apps if needed. Get rid of negative people who are holding you back!

That was it. All in all, have the most enjoyable and productive summer

With warm wishes,
