Recently Apple Company has demanded Telegram to remove some animated and interactive emojis from platform, which you're informed about, because they might be harmful for youngsters.
First of all, let say the average considered age for using Telegram apps is 17+ (in both Apple and Google Play Store) and this means using the app by people younger than this age needs parental guidance.
But is this the first time Apple asks Telegram for removing something from platform?
The answer is "No" obviously.
In October 2020, Apple asked for removal of three Belarusian channels used by protesters [1] [2], claiming that their concern is that they may cause violence.
The question now arises: Is Apple truly so much concerned about people's lives, rights and privacy?
Let's take a look at Apple's background in short.
In 2013, it got revealed that Chinese and Taiwanese companies in its supply chain are using child labour [3] and some other illegal activities like dumping waste oil in the restroom receptacle, to reduce the costs.[4]
At that time, Apple and its CEO claimed that they're against such illegal activities and promised to stop it, but in 2020, "The Information" revealed that Apple continued to rely on the companies for more than three years.[5]
In the same year (2020), the Australian Strategic Policy Institute released a report claiming that several Chinese suppliers for Apple used forced labour.
"The Information" also reported that "Apple paid an outside firm to lobby Congress on legislation targeting U.S. companies that do business in areas of China that may use slave labour". [6]
In 2021, the human rights groups have found seven companies supplying device components, coatings and assembly services to Apple are using forced labour, keeping the workers in a prison like place.[7]
In May 2021, New York Times reported that Apple plans to store the personal data of its Chinese customers there on computer servers run by a state-owned Chinese firm, and involves in a mass surveillance. [8],[9]
Now that we know all of these actions are completely in contrast to Apple's pretences and what it claims to be, should we believe them?
