Inferno of Apathy
I’m scared to lose you, even in my dreams,
Maybe one day I’ll fall like leaves that resign,
Crushed and broken by the footsteps of strangers,
My voice drowned out by their careless whispers.
But still, hope lingers in its quiet way,
A smile to float on love’s gentle sway.
No judgment passed, no worth weighed,
In calm waiting for so long, unafraid.
Though annoyance mixes with the tears brine,
And salt corrodes the ties that bind,
You couldn’t untangle, though you tried and tried,
In auroral light and twilight shade.
Why does greed so tightly bind?
Why do we hold onto what we cannot find?
Mysterious fragility, strong plea for more,
Easy attainment burns to the core.
In the fire of indifference it turns to ash,
Bone to dust in a solitary flash.
But still we reach for what we cannot grasp,
As if love could be held in a clasp.
