Assess the task on three points

This method will help to be more objective. For each task, you need to give an estimate:

the best scenario;
worst scenario;
the most likely scenario.

The first number is likely to match your initial prediction. Estimating the most likely scenario can be based on the experience you have. And when estimating the worst, you need to consider how long it will take if things go wrong.

Once you have the three numbers, calculate the average. For example, if the best-case scenario is three days, the likely scenario is five days, and the worst-case scenario is nine, simply add up: 3 + 5 + 9 = 17. Then divide that number by three. You get an average of 5.67 days - this is your prediction of the time needed.
